Anna Moraitou designs wooden accessories. Her collection is an experimental project into the fashion – architecture relationship, where form follows fuction. Working with materials we meet in architecture, she overlooks the classic fashion standards. Her handbags introduce structures of modern industrial design. Wooden surfaces that are rarely used in fashion, create new forms and shapes.
She uses wood because it’s a cruelty-free, renewable, recyclable and biodegradable material. Furthermore, processing does not require high energy consumption nor produces significant quantities of waste. From prehistoric times up to modern societies, wood is one of the most common architectural and cultural heritage materials.
She creates elementary geometric shapes, transforming everyday objects into a statement. Geometry is fundamental to Greek Philosophy, Art and Architecture. In greek philoshophy, geometric shapes are not only symbols. They are visual representations of the invisible mathematical relations that constitute reality. Plato was convinced that geometry was the key to unlocking the secrets of the universe.
