What is a bartender?

A bartender (also known as a barkeep, barman, barmaid, bar chef, tapster, mixologist, alcohol server, cocktologist, flairman or an alcohol chef) is a person who formulates and serves alcoholic or soft drink beverages behind the bar.

A bartender’s job decription also usually includes of takinc care of and maintaing the supplies and inventory for the bar. Some classic cocktails a bartender should be able to do are: Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, Old Fashioned, and Mojito.

Another thing a bartender is responsible for is confirming that customers meet the legal drinking age requirements before serving them alcoholic beverages.

In certain countries, such as Canada, the United Kingdom, and Sweden, bartenders are legally required to refuse more alcohol to drunk customers.

Historically, bartending was a profession with a low reputation. It was perceived through the lens of ethical issues and various legal constraints as well as biases that were strongly connected with serving alcolol.

Bartending became a serious and mainstream profession at the end of the 19th century, due to the contribution of “Professor” Jerry Thomas.

He was the one who managed to establish the image of the bartender as a creative professional. Harry Johnson wrote a bartending manual and established the first bar management consulting agency.

At the turn of the 20th century, slightly less than half the bartenders in London were women, such as Ada Coleman. “Barmaids”, as they were called, were usually the daughters of tradesmen or mechanics or, occasionally, young women from the “better-born” classes who had been “thrown upon their own resources” and needed an income.

The bartending profession was generally a second occupation, used as transitional work for students to gain customer experience or to save money for university fees.

However, this view of bartending as a career is changing around the world and bartending has become a profession by choice rather than a necessity. It includes specialized education — European Bartender School operates in 25 countries.

Tips on how to take care of your bartender necklace with shaker charm and the jewelry of our collection in general

1. Remove jewelry before going to bed or participating in physical activity.

2. Exposure to certain harsh chemicals or environments will result in compromising the integrity of your jewellery. This includes, but is not limited to the following: perspiration, perfumes, cleaning agents, chlorine, salt water, and silver polish.

What if you choose the gold plating option? Here are some extra tips:

1)Keep gold-plated jewelry away from hard surfaces. Bumps and scratches will cause the gold layer to wear away faster.

2)Wash your hands before putting on or taking off plated jewelry.

3)Put on gold plated earrings after you’ve applied your perfume.

4)Put on your plated jewelry after you have applied lotion or put on makeup.

5)Don’t swim wearing your plated jewelry.

6)Don’t wear your plated jewelry when you’ll be sweating profusely.

How to clean your jewelry properly

First of all, pour a small amount of mild soap into lukewarm water and use a small, soft toothbrush to clean your jewellery. If the dirt is hard to remove, soak the jewelry in clean water.

Gold plated jewelry requires more care! Using your toothbrush very intensely may cause the gold plating to fade away, therefore it is very important that you do this process very carefully to avoid the gold plating from wearing away.

Which colour jewelry suits you best?

If you have fair skin with red undertones, you may want to stay away from rose gold as it accentuate the pink undertones of your skin. Always go for silver jewelry! It will make you glow beautifully.

If you are slightly tanned with olive or mediterranean skin, you could wear almost any metal and it well flatter you amazingly!

If you have a dark skin tone go for the gold option. It will look striking and really glowy on you. Same goes with pale asian skin tones.

A disclaimer for gold plated jewelry

Gold plated pieces are, by default, more fragile and liable to lose their colour over time. The speed at which the gold plating fades will depend on multiple variables from chemical products used for skincare, level of perspiration or even your natural skin PH.
For this reason, it is particularly important to take special care of your gold plated jewelry. There are some helpful tips above!
